Function of the teeth

Mammals are the only animals that chew their food. Teeth implanted in the jaw must grip,  cut and chew food. The number and shape of teeth are different according to the species. Adapted to dietary regimes, they play an essential role because they prepare food for digestion. Their function is comparable to that of a very specific tool.
